GENERAL SECRETARY OCAKDAN: “ PEOPLE EXIST WITH THEIR SOULS”

In his opening speech, ALKU Secretary General Onur Ocakdan said, “University is a place where knowledge is learned, but it is also a precious journey where we question the meaning of life and shape ourselves and our dreams. One of the most important questions of this journey is: What does life expect from you? Today, we have come to understand what life expects from us, to discover ourselves and to take a journey into the depths of our souls. Human beings exist not only with their minds but also with their souls. Therefore, not neglecting our souls while enriching our minds with knowledge is a great necessity in order to hold on to life in a more meaningful and stronger way. For a student, does life consist of exams, classes and plans for the future? Or is the main issue beyond success to get to know our inner world, to nourish our soul and to discover ourselves? Here today, the President of the Mental Health Association, Dr. Lecturer Ömer Akgül. Prof. Dr. Ömer Akgül, President of the Mental Health Association, will answer these questions together with his valuable speeches. As ALKU, we care not only about the academic success of our students, but also about their mental and emotional development. I wish that the awareness we will gain here today will shed light on our life journey and I would like to thank Mr. Ömer Akgül for his contributions.”

FACULTY MEMBER AKGÜL: “THERE IS NOT ANY OTHER ONE LIKE US”

Akgül, who exhibited an effective expression by communicating with the students in a sincere way, supported his speech with concrete examples and made an interactive presentation by including the participants in the event. “In order to contribute to the flow of life, we should not repeat ourselves and others,” said Akgül, underlining that individuals should constantly improve themselves and not repeat themselves and others. Continuing his speech, Akgül said, “There is not and will not be another one like us. We are different from all other people not only physically but also mentally and characteristically. Most importantly, each of us is unique in terms of existential meaning. It is important to turn towards what pleases our hearts and souls, to know our existential meaning and to move forward on that path. If a human being becomes something other than what he or she exists to be, there is tension. It is important to know our existential meaning and stand in the right place. We are unique and one-of-a-kind, but we are a whole of parts that have come together in a non-accidental way. If we did not come together by chance, our existence has a meaning.” Throughout the event, Akgül emphasized the process of self-discovery, the search for existential meaning and the importance of mental health and emphasized that individuals should not only focus on academic or professional success, but also get to know their inner world.

After the event, which attracted great attendance, the “Soul Healing Hüsn-ü Hat Exhibition” was presented to the participants in the Alev Alatlı Foyer Area. The event ended with a photograph shooting.
